Bio
HomeJack Wild was born on September 30th, 1952 in Royton, England. He was discovered by talent agent June Collins, mother of Phil Collins. He auditioned for the role of the Artful Dodger in the stage version of Oliver! but was turned down for being too short. He played one of Fagin's boys while his brother Arthur Wild was the lead role of Oliver. When the film was made, he was given the role of Dodger which resulted in getting an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
Jack was offered the lead role in the American television series "HR Pufnstuf" written by Sid and Marty Krofft. He played a boy stranded on "Living Island" with his talking flute. He goes on to meet the big, friendly dragon Mayor Pufnstuf and the evil witch Witchiepoo who's after the talking flute. During the filming, he and his brother lived with the Kroffts in America.
He then moved back to England with his family and filmed Flight of the Doves (1971) and Melody (1971). He also released three albums, The Jack Wild Album (1970), Everything's coming up roses (1971) and A Beautiful World (1972). Also in 1972 he went to Germany to film the Pied Piper of Hamelin.
By 1973, he was tired of playing children alot younger than his real age (21) and got the role of Reg in The 14, playing an 18 year old boy who has to take care of the family when his mother dies. He also appeared in Our Mutual Friend (TV series), Keep It Up Downstairs and Everyday Maths.
He was a heavy drinker and also smoked. He was diagnosed with oral cancer and had his tongue, and his voice box removed. The cancer proved untreatable and he died on 1st of March 2005.
